New Brunswick

New Brunswick is the only bilingual province in Canada and its capital, Fredericton, is one of the most walkable cities in the country. Real Estate licences here are issued by New Brunswick Department of Justice and Consumer Affairs. All education and required courses that are required to obtain a licence are provided by the New Brunswick Real Estate Association (NBREA).

How to get a Real Estate Licence in New Brunswick

Licencing Prerequisites

Before getting a Salesperson’s License in New Brunswick, the candidate must have the following:

  1. Be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status
  2. Be at least 19 years of age.
  3. Be assessed for suitability by the NBREA
  4. Completed their educational curriculum through NBREA
  5. Be affiliated with a real estate firm
  6. Be a member of NBREA

 

Getting the Licence

There is a two-part licensing process in New Brunswick:

  1. Complete the mandatory Pre-Licensing Course and pass the exam
  2. Submit application for licence and be recommended for suitability

 

Part 1 – Pre-Licensing Course

To receive a Salesperson’s Licence, you are required to complete the following courses and associated exams:

  1. Introduction to a Career in Real Estate
  2. Salesperson’s Pre-Licensing Education Classroom Course

OR

  1. Salesperson’s Pre-Licensing Self-Directed Study Course

Part 2 – Licence Application

After completing the Pre Licensing Course, the prospective realtor must register with a real estate agent. Click here for suggestions for finding a brokerage.

At this point, the candidate must also apply for membership to the NBREA, including acceptance of all fees. See Costs & Fees for more information.

As well, the candidate must submit their licensing application.

Realtors are required to complete continuing education courses each year
